Worship

Overview

The Worship Ministry at First Irving

We believe that Worship is our response to God, personally and corporately, for who He is and for the great things that He has done.

We desire to worship God personally by living lives that are pleasing to God (Romans 12:1), by reading and meditating upon His Word, and through constant prayer (1 Timothy 2:1-4). One of the main ways that we worship corporately is through music. Although music is not in and of itself, worship, it is a command by God and demonstrated throughout the Bible (Psalm 95:1, Psalm 96:2, Psalm 98:4, Psalm 105:2, I Chronicles 15-16, Ephesians 5:19-20), and is a powerful way to approach God.

Services

At First Irving, we believe in the unifying understanding that God has been worshiped in many ways and with many different instruments throughout history, and is chiefly concerned with the posture of our hearts (Romans 15:5-7). No matter the style, we believe that God receives glory when His people sing His praises (Psalm 66:2).

The Classic Service meets at 8:40 AM and is driven through choir, organ, and piano. The music focused on the great hymns and anthems of the Christian faith, selected to help lead the church in songs that point our hearts to God and prepare us for His Word.

The Contemporary Services meet at 10:00 and 11:20 AM. These services are band driven and led by the Worship Team. Although called contemporary, the Worship teams selection of music and song, be it ancient or modern, are meant to express our faith and love for Jesus Christ.
