Membership

A Life-Giving Covenant

Membership is a weighty, but life-giving commitment between believers of our local body.

At First Irving, we believe the Scriptures teach us about the importance of the local church. The Scriptures teach us that the local church is the means that God demonstrates His manifold wisdom of the Gospel to all of creation (Eph. 3:10). It's for this reason that we value church membership and all of the blessings and responsibilities attached to it.

It's through the local church that we accomplish what God has called us specifically to do together. It's where we accomplish all of the 'one anothers' that the Scriptures teaches us should occur among those within the family of God. As a church we want to serve one another, we want to rejoice and weep with one another, we want to love one another, we want to be conformed into the image of Jesus Christ as we learn from the Scriptures together, and we want to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth together.

We pray that you would consider joining us in the ministry that God has given to us by following these steps in our membership process:

What Is The Membership Process?

Membership Class

The First Step in the process of membership is to enroll in our Membership Class. This is an opportunity for anyone considering membership to meet some of the staff, learn about the mission and vision of First Irving, and ask any questions you may have. We hope you will join us and learn more about the beauty of membership. The Membership Class currently consists of two parts.

Sign The Covenant

During the class, we will hand out to each person our Membership Covenant. This is a document that outlines not only what we expect of our covenant members, but also what they can expect from us. First Irving is a family, and this covenant helps us all know that we will be loved, cared for, prayed for, encouraged, challenged, and supported by this body of believers.

Though joyful and freeing, we also must feel the weight of our commitment to do these things for the body as well. Not simply to receive, but to serve and give as well. We hope you will pray over this decision, and that the Spirit will lead you to join this body of believers at First Irving.

Meet With A Pastor

After attending the Membership Class, and prayerfully signing the Covenant, we will schedule a time for you to meet with one of our amazing pastors. This is a casual meeting to help us get to know you personally. We want to hear the Lord's work in your life, and share with you how the Lord is working in ours. To us, you are more than a number, so let's start our relationship off on the right foot.

Presentation to the Church

One of the distinctives as a Baptist church is that the congregation has an active role in the ministry of the church, including membership. This is why every member is presented to church and received by the church. This occurs at our Member Meetings, where incoming members are greeted by the church, prayed for by the church, and welcomed by the church.
