Scripture: 1 John 3:11–18
Main Idea. Those in Christ are marked by love for their brothers, not by Cain’s hatred. Driving Question. What is the mark of those alive in Christ? 1. Hatred is the mark of Cain’s people (vv. 11–15) Matthew 5: 21 You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. 2. Love is the mark of Christ’s people (vv. 16–18) Application. Because Christ has loved us sacrificially, we are called to love one another in truth and action. Takeaways. Recognize Cain in Your Heart. Relinquish Yourself to Christ’s work. Ready Yourself for the World’s Hatred. Restore Health in the Church.
