5. What was the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees? (Matt. 16:12) What did the previous chapter tell us about the teaching of the Pharisees? (It was focused on man and led to self-righteousness) What has the Lord provided the church to protect itself from false teaching? (The Word of God that allows us to know the truth, the Spirit that allows us to understand the truth, and the Church that disciples us in the truth) What level of commitment do you think we should give to these provisions, knowing their function and importance?
Reflect:
5. How would you characterize your faith? Is it a faith dependent on signs or is your faith fixed firmly on the object, Jesus Christ? If you are in a difficult and overwhelming season, have you looked to God’s Word or to the Church to remind you of who our God is and what He is able to do?
6. How committed are you to submitting to the Word of God, to walking in the power of the Spirit, and to living in Gospel community with the church? What adjustments to our schedules and priorities do we need to make to demonstrate our commitment?
