Matthew 21:12-17

Recap:

1. According to Matthew 1:23, what would Jesus be called and what does this mean? What does this teach us about God’s heart?

2. What are some of the Messianic signs in the past few weeks that Matthew has shown concerning Jesus? (The miracle of the blind being healed, the fulfillment of prophecy that evidences His Messiahship)

Reteach:

3. Matthew 21:12-17 – In the sermon, the area mentioned was called the Court of the Gentiles, what was this place and its purpose? (This place was the outer area of the Temple, where the Gentiles could gather to worship God – there were other courts before one reached the Holy of Holies) How had the money changers profaned this area? (They were over charging for animals and earning wages on currency exchange)

4. What did Jesus do after the temple was cleansed? (He began to heal the blind and lame) What adjective did Matthew used to describe these acts? (Wonderful) What does this allude too in the Old Testament? (The wonderful things God would do to deliver the Israelites from Egypt).

5. What does the praise of the children, and the affirmation of their praise by Jesus teach us? (Jesus is the Messiah, and that He is no longer hiding His identity) What are the wonderful things God has done in the Gospel? What are the wonderful things that God continues to do for us?

Reflect:

6. Are you like the money changers, prioritizing your own desires over the plans and purposes of God? Did you rejoice this week in the truth that God is with us, as we are in Christ Jesus, through the presence of His Spirit? God has saved us so that we might display the manifold wisdom of God to those around.
