Sermon Questions for June 12, 2022

Colossians 1:21-23

Recap:

1. What has been growing in the church of Colossae (v.6)

2. What aspect of the description from Jesus in v.15-20 most encouraged you this past week?

Reteach:

3. Colossians 1:21 – How does Paul state our condition before we were in Christ? How should this truth help us when interacting with those outside the faith (It should give us compassion and a willingness to be gracious and merciful)? In what ways might we live today according to our past condition?

4. Colossians 1:22 – Why is it important to recognized that we have been “reconciled”, in the past? Why did Christ reconcile us? What aspects of God’s character are on display in this reconciliation (All of them)? As believers, are we holy today and what difference will be made at the return to Christ at His return?

5. Colossians 1:23 – What does Paul say helps us to remain firm in our faith (the hope of the Gospel)? What things today attempt to shift us from this hope of the Gospel? How would you summarize the truths of the Gospel presented in v.21-22? How does the church help us in our hostility towards God and in remaining in our faith?

Reflect:

6. What are ways that you have returned back to act in accordance to your former self and how might this passage lead you to respond?

7. Are you hopeful in the Gospel, or have you allowed for your hope to fall into the things of this world?
