Scripture: Psalm 16

Main Point: When we truly know God and delight in Him, we encounter full and endless joy. Driving Question: “Who is God and what is He for His people?” God, our Sovereign King (v. 2-4) God, our Inheritance (v.5-6) Jonathan Edwards: “God is the highest good of the reasonable creature. The enjoyment of him is our proper happiness, and is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here: better than fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of any or all earthly friends. These are but shadows; but God is the substance. These are but scattered beams; but God is the sun. These are but streams; but God is the fountain. These are but drops; but God is the ocean.” God, our Counselor (v.7) God, our Savior (v. 8-11) Philippians 3:7-8, 10: But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him... that I may know him and the power of his resurrection…”
