Sermon Questions for September 3, 2023

1 Peter 5:1-4

Recap:

1. How does the idea that 'the end is near' help us to live rightly?

2. What does it mean to love earnestly?

Reteach:

3. 1 Peter 5:1-2a – How does Peter refer to himself as and who is he writing too in this section? In what ways would Peter's example serve as an encouragement to the exiled believers? What two commandments does Peter give the elders in v.2? What are some of the benefits of having multiple pastors leading the church? How does this model protect the church?

4. 1 Peter 5:2b-3 – What does it mean to shepherd the flock and what are pastors called to do? How are pastors suppose to shepherd the flock? Why is it important for the congregation to know how the pastor is to shepherd the flock?

5. 1 Peter 5:4 – Why is it helpful for the pastors to look hopefully for the return of Christ? Why would it be helpful for both the pastors and congregation to remember that Jesus is the Chief Shepherd? Read Psalm 23, what does the Good Shepherd do for us?
