Sermon Questions for November 14, 2021
Matthew 23:13-39
Recap:
1. What did Jesus teach that we should be our house on? (The Rock – Matt. 7:24-27) What did the rock represent? (The words of Jesus – Matt.7:24)
2. What was the message of the Kingdom of God that Jesus preached? (Matt. 4:17) What had the scribes and Pharisees not done and what was the condition of their hearts? (Their hearts were far from God – Matt. 15:8-9)
Reteach:
3. Matthew 23:13-33 – What was a “woe” and how many did He issue at the religious leaders? What were some of the ways that the religious leaders had misled the people?* What would be the end result for these religious leaders and those that ultimately followed them?
4. What does it mean to ‘know’ God’s Word? (It’s the knowledge of what it says and the application of it in one’s life) Each of the examples of how the religious leaders misled the people, demonstrated a misuse or a disregard for the Scriptures, how does knowing God’s Word help us avoid following false teachers/teaching?
5. How does the church help us from following false teachers? (The church provides the venue to move us from our individual interpretation of Scripture to a communal one) How does discipleship specifically help us? (Discipleship provides intentional teaching and instruction of the Word of God)

6. Are you committed to the Word of God, the church, and to the vision of the church to make disciples? Are you wanting to be involved in discipleship? (You can reach out to your group leaders or to the Pastors)
7. Have you decided to build your house on the words of man or on the words of Jesus? Pray that today you would delight in the Word of God

They disoriented the people by neglecting the thrust of Scripture (v. 23-24). 4. They detained the people by confusing the source of righteousness (v. 25-28). 5. They desensitized the people by justifying the failure of recognition (v. 29-33).
