Haggai
The book of Haggai is the account of God speaking through the prophet Haggai to the remnant of his people, Israel, that had returned back to Jerusalem after their Babylonian captivity. The people of God had been given the task of rebuilding the temple which, under the old covenant, is the place that God designed to dwell with his people. Rather than building the temple as they should have, Israel was more determined to build their own houses and establish their own lives back in Jerusalem. This powerful book teaches us of the necessity for our hearts to be about the priority of building God's kingdom and glory amongst his people, and the dwelling of God with his people, over the building up of our own lives. And as we will see, though Israel ultimately obeyed the Lord's command and rebuilt the temple, God promises that one day an even better Temple will be built which will house peoples from all nations – The Lord Jesus Christ.
